Boredom. Our modern society seems to avoid boredom at all costs. Our smartphones, games, connected devices, internet videos, and endless streaming platforms provide us with endless distractions and relief from boredom.

We often panic if any of these distractions are absent from us for even a minute.

My grandmother, a wonderfully complicated and strong woman, would have handed you a broom and put you to work if you had even mentioned the word “boredom” in passing. There were endless chores to be done.

Yet, in those mindless chores, the boredom set in. Inside the boredom, my brain would event a game or imagine an alternate reality.

We lack moments of boredom in our modern society due to endless scrolling and entertainment that is always there for us.

You have to let yourself get so bored that your mind has nothing better to do than tell itself a story — Neil Gaiman

What would happen if we turned our smart devices and internet connected devices off for a short time?

Hopefully, we will be so bored that we create.

Create new worlds, new games, new stories, and new adventures.
