How to Start Creating from a Blank Page. Don’t Wait for the Muses.
Does the sight of a blank page stop you in your tracks and you are not able to move forward? The blank page can be a source of fear for many creatives. It can happen at any point in our creative careers.
Ancient Greek poets would often wait for the Muses to arrive. Many poets would even try to invoke the Muses in various ways. The Muses are the goddesses of literature, science, and the arts who inspire mortals and Gods alike. A Muse, in modern times, may be a source of artistic inspiration. Our word museum is derived from the Muses, a place that stores knowledge and art.
Are you waiting on the Muses to show up and give you divine inspiration for your creation? Have the Muses visited you in the past? Maybe, they will visit you today or in the future. The problem is that the Muses may be enjoying a latte on Mount Olympus and it might take a while to get to you.
Blank pages can cause feelings of uncertainty and doubt about getting started. Maybe looking up ideas on YouTube or TikTok will help. Maybe reading the owner’s manual for your new pencil, art tool, instrument, or creative software will help. Hours later, the blank page is still waiting.
