Slow Down, Taking a Break from Medium’s Pesky Writing Cycle
After getting off to a good start on Medium, I had to pause and take a break. Trying to think of a new story everyday was not what I had intended or wanted.
Truth be told, I joined Medium to illustrate. Illustration and drawing are my passion, and I just happen to add words to my drawings. I want to to tell visual stories. Creating original illustrations for all of my Medium stories, often with two to three illustrations per story, only increased the work load and pressure.
As I learned the platform, it also became clear that most articles were lists or about tips on how to make money. Medium is a social media platform built around writing, but the goal is to keep people on the platform.
Medium is not suited for comics, illustrations, or drawings. The platform rewards time reading a story. The more time spent reading your story, the more money you make. Images can be scanned/viewed quicker than a paragraph of text giving image based stories a distinct disadvantage.
