I was trying to learn Portuguese, because my wife is from Brazil. I realized after having an almost 3 year streak that I had a great vocabulary, but could not talk or communicate on a basic level.

The gamification in Duolingo shifted and it was all about the streak and not really learning. I had high hopes for the app, but have canceled my paid membership after three years.
